Is anyone microblogging out there? I haven't started yet because it just seems like another digital food group to add to my overflowing plate, but being as I am a blogger about Generation Y and new media, I feel like a pathetic poser for not being a microblogger.
Twitter seems to be seeping into the career realm at an alarming rate, although in reality I'm sure a small percentage of people are really using it. It seems crazy to think that Yammer, a new microblog for the office place, will ever really take off. However, who ever thought back in college that we'd someday be Facebook friends with our boss or start pages for our workplace? Everything digital inevitably will become mainstream.
The Bits blog for The New York Times poses this question:
"Do workers need a new way to communicate? Or will Yammer be yet another inbox to keep up with in an already cluttered digital world?"
Now I'm all for using the Web at work to the best of our abilities ... but I still vote for the latter. I just can't take much more! (Thanks at least to Google for taking over the Web and aggregating most of my life to my homepage these days.)
