Each generation has its own unique characteristics and no two generations can be expected to behave the same. What Baby boomers think is laziness and lack of work ethic is what Gen Y calls ‘working smart’. Since Gen Yers are tech-savvy they get their work done faster and hence don’t need to put in longer work hours. As mentioned by Vineet Nayar in his book ‘Employees first, customers second’, Gen Y employees are more collaborative. I can't believe how big of a role Facebook plays in dating for people my age, for instance. Have you ever heard of Al Duncan? He's described as The Millenial Mentor, and your very specific points about how the GenY employees and Boomers have different work styles as well as communication styles. It's interesting to me to with my work in Dating and Relationships to talk and coach both groups. The GenY folks often tend towards texting and text dates while the Boomers are definitely wanting to meet and communicate in person. Ultimately, they are both spheres of relationship and interaction. Are you over at twitter at all? I'd love to connect you and Al. I think the cross dialogue might prove intriguing.
